September
20, 2004 -- Lee Heagy & Company is featured pharmaceutical/
biotechnology executive search expert in the September
2004 Nature Biotechnology.
September
20, 2004 In an article in the current issue of Nature
Biotechnology, leading executive search consultant
Donna N. Lee confirms that scientists rarely jump from
biotechnology companies to large pharmaceutical companies
except in some specific specialties such as proteomics.
Ms. Lee, president of Lee Heagy & Company, discusses
the role of bioinformatics in drug discovery, clinical
trials and personalized medicine for the article.
Ms. Lee
is also the featured Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology executive
search expert in the ExecuNet Market Trend Report,
Where the Jobs are - 2004. She predicts there will
strong demand in the industry for executives for many years
as funding and partnerships accelerate and more products
are approved by the FDA.
“I
appreciate the recognition of Lee Heagy & Company as
an expert in biotechnology/pharmaceutical executive search
by these prestigious publications. I am extremely excited
and optimistic about the future of the life sciences industry,” said

January 21,
2003-- Donna N. Lee, President of Lee Heagy & Company
is featured in another Wall Street Journal Career
Journal article.
Excerpts
from the article "Drug Firms Seek Leaders To Push
Product to Market" by Perri Capell, Senior Correspondent:
"Drug
companies remain ardent recruiters of top scientific and
business talent who can help develop new discoveries and
bring products in development to market quickly.
Donna
N. Lee, president of Lee Heagy & Co., a biotechnology-focused
recruiting firm in Great Falls, Va., says biotech firms
are recruiting following a slowdown in mid-2002. "I'm
busier now than I was six months ago. The last quarter
of 2002 was extremely strong, which is a good sign," she
says. "There's some pent-up demand now."
Biotechnology
firms seek financial and legal executives to fill out their
infrastructures, says Ms. Lee. "As companies move
further along, they need more regulatory and legal support,"
she says.
She
recently helped find a director of intellectual property
and director of legal for a rapidly growing midsize biotechnology
company. The intellectual property lawyer needed scientific
training and background, plus a law degree and patent expertise,
and was recruited from another biotech firm. The legal
director came from a law firm, but also has a science background."
May
21, 2002-- Donna N. Lee, the President of Lee Heagy & Company,
is the featured biotechnology executive recruiter in
the Wall Street Journal’s Career Journal. The
link to the in depth interview is: http://www.careerjournal.com/recruiters/profiles/20020521-lee.html
Excerpt
from questions of Career Journal reporter Perri Capell
with Donna N. Lee's response.
"Q:
What qualities do you look for when recruiting candidates
for small, growing biotechnology firms?
A:
They have to be passionate about their work, no matter
what function they're in. These companies are passionate
companies. Many of these companies are working on technologies
that will save millions of lives or contribute to that.
A lot of people go into medical fields because [they can
do work that is] good. They're looking to cure major diseases
such as diabetes or cancer and work with important products.
People are excited about being a part of companies that
have products that will have a significant impact on humanity.
It's what they're after, which is neat. The companies tend
to be lightly staffed, so they need people with huge amounts
of energy and real dedication to working the hours it takes,
which are usually significant. Most people are having so
much fun; they'll do what it takes to be successful. I
placed a vice president of R&D who literally slept under
his lab bench early in his career. People in his lab couldn't
figure out why they couldn't beat him to work in the morning.
The beauty of the biotechnology industry is that people
are excited about what they do and have a lot of enthusiasm."
